Multiculturalism redefines what it means to be American today. The estimated U.S. Hispanic population is 49.7 million, making people of Hispanic origin the nation’s largest ethnic or race minority, representing 16% of the nation’s total population. By 2020, the projected total of the Hispanic population is 66.4 million. By the year 2050, the projected Hispanic population of the United States is expected to be 132.8 million, more than double its current size. It is critical to understand the unique sub groups and various acculturation levels of U.S. Latinos.
