Let It Begin

After mechanical issues, two de-icings and a tow-bar issue (raise your hand if you’ve heard that one before), Amanda Lordy (@lordylordy) and I (@dangadd) have arrived in Austin for Day 1 of South By Southwest (SXSW). For those of you looking to get up to speed on all the latest social media buzzwords, I highly recommend sitting on a plane bound for Austin on the first day of SXSW interactive.

Going to SXSW for the first time is exciting, and daunting at the same.The people lined up to host sessions, or just hanging out around town, are some of the top names in marketing, digital and social media, and business. Not to mention the actors, comedians and a former Vice President. Reading through the descriptions of the thousands of sessions being hosted here this weekend is a nearly incomprehensible feat, and attending even one percent of them is probably an unlikely task. There are countless “best of” articles and suggestions on the web, apps and tools to try to make sense of all of the information and SXSW vets have provided tips of all kinds: chief among them being to avoid the largest urban bat colony on earth  (tip of the hat to Michael Dolan, @EvilPRGuy for that one).

There is no doubt that being here is a genuine opportunity for companies and individuals to grow. Even going through the sessions schedule, and coordinating introductions with people that will be here have the creative juices flowing. Three days of actually listening and discussing a broad range of topics will surely ignite a host of new ideas We’ve spent a lot of time preparing, and we’ve got a great gameplan.

What will be the big trends, topics and news be this year? Will last year’s top storylines still be relevant? We won’t have to wait long to find out.
