It’s no secret that MLB has lagged behind when it comes to marketing its athletes, especially compared to players in the NFL and NBA. Social media has become the most effective tool to market individual athletes and build engagement with fans. MLB players and teams need to utilize their social media platforms to connect with a younger generation, who have grown up in a crowded digital sports landscape and are gravitating more toward esports and action sports than to our national pastime. Our team at Taylor identified 10 MLB “Social Media All Stars” based on both their on-field heroics and off-field digital savvy.
These players have capitalized on the changing media dynamics in the sports world to grow their brand and popularity, with some going as far as establishing personal media channels to create their own content and connect directly with fans.
