Client Partner Activision Blizzard Launches its Overwatch League

As the Public Relations Agency of Record for Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch League (OWL), the first major global professional esports league with competition organized by cities, Taylor recently supported the OWL inaugural Media Day at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Los Angeles. The day-long press event drew dozens of journalists from around the world representing unique print and online publications, broadcast outlets and top-tier community sites.

 

Taylor supported global communication efforts, led US media outreach, and provided on-site support in LA to execute the opening ceremony featuring the league commissioner, Twitch’s Kevin Lin (via Skype) and HP’s CEO Josh Kocurek. In addition, we organized 12 back-to-back team press conferences, dozens of small group interviews running concurrently, and the post-event media interviews with League executives, Team owners, coaches, players, and partners. As a result, the media day successfully drove massive top-tier business, entertainment, sports, and esports media coverage with various announcements made throughout the day, including the landmark media rights deal between Overwatch and the streaming site Twitch. The agreement is valued at nearly $90 million, according to the Sports Business Journal.
